Falcons fall in final home game of the season

The Bowling Green softball team played in their final home game of the year against the Kent State Golden Flashes and fell 9-0.

The Golden Flashes jumped on the board early, as infielder Alexandria Whitmore stole home and scored on a passed ball in the first inning

Later in the inning, junior Emily Lippe hit a two-run home run over the right-center field wall to put the Golden Flashes up 3-0.

The Falcons were unable to score in the bottom of the first but were able to keep the Golden Flashes off the board in the second inning.

In the third inning with runners on first and second, Julia Mazenec of Kent State hit into a fielders choice.

However, a throwing error lead another Kent State runner to score growing the lead to 4-0.

BGSU was held off the board in the third and both teams were held off the board in the fourth.

Kent State muscled in another run in the fifth inning after Mazenec hit a two-out RBI single into right field with a runner on third another run

The Falcons were still unable to score in the fifth and sixth innings, giving the Kent State Golden Flashes a 5-0 lead headed into the seventh inning.

Mazenec continued her great day at the plate, hitting a bases-loaded triple and scoring three more Kent State runs.

Later in the inning, Mazenec came around to score after a ground ball to the shortstop, allowing her to score making it a 9-0 Golden Flash lead.

The Bowling Green Falcons did not score in the bottom of the seventh inning making it a 9-0 final at Meserve filed.

The Falcons had three total hits on the day.

Coach Candace Fenton-Bockbrader and the Falcons play in their final series of the year next weekend in northern Illinois against the Huskies.

First pitch is set for 4pm on Friday.
