Bowling Green Baseball lost their third straight game to the Youngstown State Penguins on Tuesday by a final of 5-1.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Penguins struck first with a sacrifice groundout by first baseman Padraig O’Shaughnessy, sending teammate Trey Law home, putting YSU up 1-0.

Youngstown State extended their early lead in the first inning after a sacrifice flyout from fifth-year Steven D’Eusanio, sending Braeden O’Shaughnessy home for a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, with the bases loaded, the Orange and Brown cut the lead to one after a walk from senior Tyler Ross. Freshman DJ Newman walked across home plate to make the score 2-1.

The Penguins would not back down, scoring off a double to right field from Braeden O’Shaughnessy, with sophomore Ian Francis crossing home plate. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Youngstown extended their lead once more with a single to right field from senior Andre Good, bringing fellow senior Turner Grau home.

Law crossed home plate for the second time in the bottom of the seventh inning via a SAC fly to give the Penguins a 5-1 lead, and ultimately, the win.

With this loss, Bowling Green has lost three games in a row. BG’s record now stands at 16-28 on the year, while the Penguins improve to 15-32.

The Falcons look to snap their three-game skid as they begin a three-game series against the Northern Illinois Huskies. Game one is set to start on Friday, May 12th, with first pitch set for 3 pm.
