The report states James Patrick Lindsay was allegedly suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and was given a blood alcohol test.

Lindsay was allegedly driving 40 mph in a 25-mph zone when he “almost side-swiped a vehicle [on] South Main Street, before driving off the roadway,” according to the report.

After striking Michael Szabo, who was riding a bike, Lindsay allegedly got out of his vehicle and after a brief moment, got back into his vehicle and placed his truck in reverse to move it, according to witnesses.

The Sentinel-Tribune reported that an open container of alcohol was allegedly found in Lindsay’s truck. It was also reported Lindsay’s wife told officers he had been cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence as well as an open container was found in his vehicle in June during another incident.

WTOL reported that Szabo was in Bowling Green visiting his 85-year-old mother who has multiple sclerosis and other health issues. WTOL also reported Szabo’s brother, Jeff Szabo, believes Michael may have been running errands for his family when he was struck, or he might have simply been enjoying the bicycle he purchased only three weeks before the incident.
