A Bowling Green man convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend in March was sentenced by a Wood County judge Friday.
Jimmy David Cole, 30, was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Alicia Rosa, and their unborn son, according to the Wood County Prosecuting Attorney. He must serve at least 30 years before having the opportunity for parole.
Cole’s sentence stems from the March 30, 2023 stabbing of Rosa and the resulting death of their fetus. Rosa’s parents found her body stabbed four times.
The prosecuting office says the defense argued against two separate murder charges on the stance of fetal viability, though Cole’s sentence comes after evidence showed that the infant was 20-21 weeks old and was alive and healthy at the time of the stabbing.
“We are pleased that the Court rejected the arguments of the defense that Baby Amor was not a separate life,” Wood County Prosecutor Dobson said. “This offense was horrific and the fact that Alicia’s parents had to find her body in that state is unimaginable. The family is grateful that Judge Kuhlman gave Cole a sentence that will keep the public protected from him for many years to come. We hope that this resolution will bring some small measure of comfort to that family and be a first step in their healing process.”
