The university today announced country music star Phil Vassar will perform a free, pre-game concert before this year’s Homecoming game.
The scheduled 90-minute show will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Tailgate Park on the south end of Doyt L. Perry stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. followed by a free fireworks show.
Phil Vassar’s repertoire includes 10 No. 1 singles and 27 Top-40 hits beginning as a songwriter. He wrote hits for Grand Ole Opry members Alan Jackson, Collin Raye, Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina and in 1999, Vassar was named ASCAP’s songwriter of the year. His solo recording career began in 2000 with a self-titled album with the first single (“Carlene”) breaking into the top five on country music charts and the subsequent single – “Just Another Day in Paradise” – rising to number one. He also had a number one hit with “In a Real Love” from his third album, Shaken Not Stirred.
A reminder that this year, The Doyt will be a cashless venue, including parking, concessions and tickets. More information on Homecoming can be found online.
