The Department of Popular Culture and the School of Cultural and Critical Studies have announced the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference. This free event will be held on April 25th & 26th in the Bowen Thompson Student Union room 314.
Doug Wimbish, award winning American bassist known for playing with Living Colour and Tackhead, will be the featured keynote speaker. He is set to give remarks about his work and provide a demonstration.
Being held over two days, starting Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day will end with an hour-long film screening of WE WANT THE FUNK!, a documentary following the story of funk and its roots, in the Union Theatre, room 206. Saturday, the conference will run from 9:05 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The final day will conclude with the keynote speaker address.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the beginning and middle of the event during both days.
