This past weekend in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) softball didn’t bring much to the table, but one story stood out the most.
The Northern Illinois Huskies swept the doubleheader against the University at Buffalo Bulls, moving up from sixth to fifth in the MAC standings. But this series win didn’t stop there, in game two of the doubleheader, the Huskies set a new program record for Runs Batted In (RBI) in a game after winning 20-2.
According to Northern Illinois University Athletics, this victory also ties a program record of 20 runs in a game set in 1982 against Indiana State University.
“The offense came alive, and that’s what we are capable of doing every game,” said first-year head coach Kathryn Gleason. “I thought we executed well in the first game, and that gave them confidence in the second game.”
With their fiery offense, the Huskies combined for 34 hits this weekend.
