A man identified by police as Matthew A. Smith was arrested this afternoon for aggravated menacing.
Smith, 26, of Custer, OH, was acting suspicious downtown at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post where his wife Brooke Smith works, said Maj. Tony Hetrick, deputy chief of the Bowling Green Police Division.
The couple have had domestic issues in the past.
“She was worried he had a hand gun on him so she texted her mother and she called [the Bowling Green police],” Hetrick said.
After police arrived, Smith surrendered with no struggle. He did not have a firearm on him after police searched him and the area.
He is now in custody and will eventually be taken to jail, Hetrick said.
