  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Movie Review “Despicable Me 2”

Grade: A+

Laughter and smiles are what the short yellow minions caused after using their fart guns, or acting as though they used them, and attempting to drive a car in the mall to help their friend Gru.

Despicable Me 2” is a fun and loving movie that is entertaining for the whole family. Many may remember the first installment of the movie “Despicable Me” being released in 2010. Three years later Gru, his daughters and his yellow minions are back and sillier than ever.

To refresh memories, “Despicable Me” was when movie audiences first met the popular villain Gru [Steven Carell] who was determined to pull off the greatest heist. Gru accomplished his goal by shrinking the moon. While on his journey, he adopted three young girls. Being a father to the young children soon warms Gru’s cold heart throughout the movie.

The plot of “Despicable Me 2” focuses on Gru keeping his oldest daughter from boys and the new relationship he has with his new working partner Lucy Wilde [Kristen Wiig].

Father Gru is now a loving and responsible man who no longer focuses on his evil past. Gru is now working for a company who asked him to help save the world by retrieving a serum that created destructible people once it was injected into their systems. Soon the serum gets into the wrong hands and is injected into the minions. While solving the mystery, Gru comes in contact with villains from his past and falls in love with his working partner Lucy Wilde. Unlike “Despicable Me,” moviegoers are able to witness Gru’s softer side.

Viewers can expect to laugh and have heartfelt feelings after seeing Gru’s heart warm up enough to fall in love, start a family and like the idea of being a hero instead of a villain.

Steven Carell, Kristen Wigg and Russell Brand’s voices helped bring the characters to life again for the movie’s sequel to bring laughter into the theaters.

“Despicable Me 2” is a great movie for all ages. If you’re looking for a great movie that will make you laugh as much as it made me, I suggest individuals go see Gru, his daughters and his silly little minions.
