Junior defenseman Anton Malmström has signed with the St. Louis Blues organization.

He will report to the Springfield Thunderbirds, which is the Blues’ AHL affiliate.

“I was super excited for the opportunity I got at Bowling Green. There weren’t many people who believed in me three years ago. I’m really thankful for all the people within this great program for believing in me and as I tried to take advantage of that opportunity,” said Malmstrom. “Without the help of the guys here and all the people within the program, I wouldn’t be here. I just want to say thank you. I’m super grateful and proud to be a Bowling Green Falcon.”

The Swedish native has played 89 games with the Falcons.

Overall, he has tallied up seven goals and six assists for a total of 13 points.

Additionally, Malmström blocked 124 shots in his career, ranking fifth in the CCHA.

During his three-year tenure with Bowling Green, he has been named CCHA All-Academic, CCHA Scholar Athlete, and ACHA All-American Scholar.

He is the first Falcon to sign an NHL contract since 2020 when the Florida Panthers signed defenseman Alec Rauhauser.

Head Coach Ty Eigner expressed his gratitude for Malmström as he moves on to play professional hockey.

“I’m really proud of Anton and his family,” he said. “For him to leave here after three years with an NHL contract is great. We’ll put him up on the wall next to the rest of the guys which is a really special thing for us because we want to be a program that combines athletics and academics at the highest level.”
