After receiving an early exit of the Mason Cup playoff, Ty Eigner has been dismissed as the head coach of the Bowling Green hockey team.
Eigner, who has been the head coach for five seasons, has an 83-81-11 record while winning one in five playoff series in the WCHA and the CCHA. He finished the 2023-24′ season 13-22-1 including a six-game win streak in February and a six-game losing streak heading into March.
BGSU Athletic Director Derek van der Merwe issued this statement on Monday morning:
“These are never easy decisions to make, especially given Ty’s many years of service to the University. I would like to thank Ty and his family for their contributions and commitment to BGSU hockey, the University and the Bowling Green community, which represents a tenure of service as a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach for the Falcons that has spanned a combined 19 seasons.”
Eigner’s performances in the later parts of the last few seasons fueled the decision. Eigner is 1-8 in March of the last three years, beating Bemidji State one time and being outscored 25-14.
The Falcons will begin their search for the next head coach immediately.
