Last week, the three top football teams in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) proved themselves with dominant wins.
Ohio, Miami OH, and Bowling Green all remain tied for first place in the MAC conference with a 6-1 record.
This final week of regular season play will prove who deserves a spot in the Mid-American Conference Championship game.
The biggest game this week is when Miami and Bowling Green face off on Friday at noon. This game is the biggest deciding factor for which of the two teams will head to Detroit to compete for the MAC title on Dec. 7.
Ohio’s game against Ball State on Friday at noon is no walk in the park.
To guarantee they go to Detroit, the Bobcats must ensure a win against the Cardinals.
Grad student quarterback Parker Navarro has been heating up with each passing game. The quarterback will need to lead his team once again to keep their losses to one. Considering Ball State’s 2-5 conference record, this game looks like it will go the way of the Bobcats, but one can never know with MAC football.
Akron and Kent State sit at the bottom of the MAC. Both teams will play on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Akron will take on Toledo, who has a 4-3 conference record.
Toledo was dominated by Ohio last week, with a final score of 24-7. Akron most recently beat Kent State, however, the Golden Flashes have yet to win a game this season.
Toledo was able to shut out Ohio in the first half with strong and effective defensive efforts. If this same defense shows up on Tuesday, the game should go the way of the Rockets.
Kent State will play Buffalo. The Bulls sit second in the MAC, behind the three teams tied for first, with a 5-2 record.
Senior quarterback C.J. Ogbonna has led Buffalo all season.
Ogbonna threw a game-opening 90-yard touchdown pass last week against Eastern Michigan. This pass opened up a 17-point lead the Bulls would make in the first half to carry them to victory.
Kent State has had less luck this season, still without a win. Given Buffalo’s success, it seems like it will take a near-miracle to give the Golden Flashes a win this season.
Saturday will feature two MAC games.
The first is at 1:30 p.m. between Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.
Both teams lost last week.
Eastern was taken down by Buffalo, and the Eagles are still looking for a win to become bowl-eligible.
Western was beaten by Central Michigan last week.
That Central Michigan team was led by fourth-string freshman quarterback Jadyn Glasser.
Glasser and the Chips will take on Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
NIU was beaten by Miami last week. The Huskies sit near the middle of the MAC with a 3-4 conference record.
Central has a slightly worse record of 2-5, however after the Chips broke their four-game losing streak with a surprising win over Western, who knows where momentum can take them.
Overall this week the biggest game will be between Bowling Green and Miami. The answer to which team will come out on top and prove they deserve to be playing for the MAC title will be answered at noon on Friday.
