Two teams have officially earned their spots in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship football game with wins this week.
Along with those two important games that took place on Friday, other teams in the MAC also wrapped up their regular season play.
On Tuesday, Akron upset Toledo by beating them 21-14.
Akron was previously ranked second to last, just ahead of Kent State with two conference wins this season, while Toledo was near the top of the pack with four conference wins.
The Zips played an impressive game, with scoring kicked off by a 72-yard touchdown pass from redshirt junior quarterback Ben Finley, and the game ended with senior defensive lineman CJ Nunnally IV sacking Toledo junior quarterback Tucker Gleason.
This win was Akron’s first over Toledo since 2013.
Toledo will head to a bowl game later this month while Akron is officially done for the year.
Also on Tuesday, Kent State played Buffalo. Buffalo had a convincing win 43-7.
Senior quarterback C.J. Ogbonna led the Bulls, accounting for five touchdowns.
Kent State was able to score in the third quarter when junior quarterback Tommy Ulatowski threw 27 yards for a touchdown.
Buffalo finishes off their season with six conference wins and will head to a bowl game later this month.
Kent State had a rough season, unable to win any games. With their 0-12 record, the Golden Flashes are done for the year.
Friday’s games featured the three teams previously tied for first in the MAC with Ohio, Miami [OH], and Bowling Green all playing.
Ohio took on Ball State and proved themselves with a 42-21 win.
Grad student quarterback Parker Navarro came through for his team as usual, accounting for five of their touchdowns.
The Bobcats will head to Detroit on Dec. 7 for the MAC championship game.
Joining them will be the Miami RedHawks after their convincing win over Bowling Green on Friday.
Bowling Green will head to a bowl game later this month.
On Saturday, Eastern and Western Michigan faced off, with the Broncos coming out victorious with a 26-18 win.
Senior running back Zahir Abdus-Salaam ran for one touchdown and caught another to lead the Broncos to victory.
The Broncos also blocked a punt for safety that began a run to give them 16 points in four minutes.
Eastern Michigan’s season ended with this game, while the Broncos are bowl-eligible.
Central Michigan’s season ended yesterday with a 24-16 loss to Northern Illinois.
Redshirt junior quarterback Ethan Hampton got the Huskies off to a quick lead with a touchdown run and two 66-yard touchdown drives in the first quarter.
This win will propel NIU to their bowl game later this month.
