Today, BGSU men’s soccer announced the addition of Gonzalo Carranza’s to head coach Eric Nichols‘ coaching staff.
“I want to sincerely thank coach Eric Nichols for the trust he has placed in me to join the BGSU men’s soccer staff,” said Carranza. “I am beyond excited to get to work and help our student-athletes excel both on and off the pitch.”
Carranza comes to Bowling Green after spending two seasons as the head coach of Xavier University of Louisiana. In those two years, he led the Gold Rush to an overall record of 25-9-3.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gonzalo to our coaching staff,” said Nichols. “With an incredible pool of candidates, Gonzalo stood out with his passion for the game and dedication to developing teams and players.”
Under Carranza’s leadership, Xavier went 11-4-2 in 2023 and 9-2-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). Last season, he was named the RRAC Coach of the Year as the Gold Rush finished 14-5-1 overall and 11-2-0 in RRAC play, advancing to the second round of the NAIA national tournament.
Prior to Xaiver, Carranza coached at Eastern Oklahoma State College where he posted a 19-9-6 record during his two seasons.
Carranza will join the Falcons ahead of the 2025 College Spring League, Bowling Green will open up CSL play against Akron on Saturday, March 1 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
