Marny Oestreng, Bowling Green’s most accomplished gymnast in program history, was elected as a part of the 2025 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame induction class on Friday.
Oestreng competed for Bowling Green gymnastics from 1999 to 2002 and still has four individual records in the Falcons record book. Her career and program highs include a vault score of 9.950, an uneven bars score of 9.950, a floor score of 9.975, and an all-around score of 39.600. She is also fifth in program history on the balance beam, with a career-high of 9.925.
She is the 13th Falcon to be inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame and the first Bowling Green gymnast to do so. Her election marks the fourth straight year Bowling Green has had someone in the prestigious club (Curt Miller in 2024, Mickey Cochrane in 2023 and Dorothy Luedtke in 2022).
Oestreng is Norwegian and competed in the European Championships for five years before coming to Bowling Green. Her experience paid off immediately as she became the first Falcon in program history to qualify for the NCAA National meet in her freshman season.
Not only did she qualify, but she became a National Champion after winning the 1999 NCAA Title in the floor exercise with a score of 9.925.
She also won the all-around score in the 1999 MAC Championships, was named MAC Gymnast of the Year and was named MAC Freshman of the Year.
Some of Oestreng’s other collegiate accomplishments include three more MAC Championship all-around titles, being named MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year and leading the Orange & Brown to a 17-1 record in 2002, the most wins in program history.
Oestreng will officially be inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame with the rest of the 2025 class on May 29 at the Marriott Key Tower in Cleveland.
