Bowling Green (BG) held their bi-monthly city council meeting on Monday, Sept. 15, which included a recap on the recent Black Swamp Arts Festival in the city, as well as this summer’s recap from the city’s parks and recreation department.
The Black Swamp Arts Festival took place in BG from Sept. 5 to the 7. Doug Cubberly, co-chair of the festival’s site and logistics committee, spoke at Monday’s meeting and said his thanks to the city and the city’s administration for their handling of the event.
“It was an incredible success again this year. There were absolutely some challenges as we went along, but each challenge was met with cooperation between the city and our organization,” said Cubberly.
Kristin Otley, director of parks and recreation, recapped their summer. Otley said there were high participation rates in their programs and leagues.
“We had 131 kids participate in our rec camps, that is 94% capacity, 64 kids participated in our safety town programs at 91% capacity, 120 kids participated in our nature camps at 100% capacity,” said Otley.
Otley also provided updates on current projects for parks and recreation, such as the new pickleball courts.
“The pickleball court project is well underway and they are being used. We’re allowing use while we’re still completing the project and they are being used by all ages at all times of the day and people are very excited about it,” said Otley.
Also during the meeting, Brian O’Connell, director of public infrastructure, provided an update on construction on South Main Street.
“The current completion date is around mid-November, so hopefully we’ll be getting that done before the end of this year and get back to normal traffic operation on South Main Street,” said O’Connell.
Bowling Green City Council meets every first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at 305 N. Main Street.
