The Falcon softball team will host a weekend series with their archrival, Toledo.
Both teams are coming off mid-week splits with non-conference foes. BG split a doubleheader with IPFW on Tuesday and Toledo did so against Oakland (Michigan). Toledo also had a doubleheader with Wright State on Thursday, losing both games by scores of 3-2 and 7-6.
BG defeated Wright State in mid-March in a doubleheader, 2-0 and 2-1.
This past season the Falcons swept the Rockets in two games 7-1 and 3-1.
Toledo is 13-30 (6-10) and sits fourth in the MAC West. BG is 24-18 (7-9) and sits third in the MAC East.
The Rockets are led by Courtney McCarthy who has 28 RBIs and seven home runs. Jessica Lemieux leads Toledo batting at .397. McCarthy is hitting just behind her with .364. Toledo has a total of 199 runs however has allowed 285 for its opponents, whereas BG has scored less with 131 runs but held its opponents to 118.
Comparatively, Katie Yoho leads the way for the Falcons. Yoho has 28 RBIs and seven home runs to match. Yoho is batting .246 whereas Paige Berger leads the category with .366. The teams are nearly identical statistically aside from record and pitching.
Toledo brings two pitchers in Marla Gooding and Alli Beery. Gooding (9-16) has given up 120 earned runs with a 4.75 ERA. Beery (5-12) has made fewer appearances but has allowed 93 runs with a 6.58 ERA.
The BG pitching duo of Paris Imholz and Jamie Kertes has allowed the Falcons to win games without scoring lots of runs. Imholz (15-6) was named the MAC player of the week three times this season, has allowed 37 runs with a 1.80 ERA. Kertes (9-11) has allowed 40 runs with a 2.13 ERA.
Game one will be this Saturday at 2 p.m. and game two will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
