The Student Veterans of America organization is hosting a 5k memorial run for Operation Gothic Serpent on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Operation Gothic Serpent, also referred to as Black Hawk Down, was a military operation conducted in Mogadishu, Somalia on Oct. 3, 1993. The primary mission was to capture warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid during the Somali Civil War, according to SOF News.
The goal of the Mogadishu Mile 5K Run is to raise money for the Three Rangers Foundation. The foundation provides support for Army Rangers who are transitioning from the military to civilian life.
Registration for the run can be done on runsignup.com/races. The cost to register is $25 and includes a free T-shirt for anyone who registers prior to Sept. 14. Registration ends at midnight on Sept. 30.
