Bowling Green State University (BGSU) once again welcomes its largest freshman class in its history, with over 4,000 students starting this academic year.
The class of 2029 is also the university’s highest achieving, with a cumulative GPA of 3.74 and an average ACT score of 25, according to BGSU.
This is the university’s second year breaking this record, surpassing last year’s freshman class of nearly 3,900 students with a GPA of 3.69.
“We are so grateful that, again, a record number of students and families have chosen Bowling Green,” President Rodney Rogers said. “This growth is absolutely a reflection of our laser-like focus on the student experience. Bowling Green is big enough to provide all the opportunities of a large university, but small enough that each student can actually take advantage of it, all in one of America’s best and safest college towns.”
The university said it’s seeing a 17% increase in the number of students transferring from other institutions, many coming from community colleges in parts of Ohio and southeast Michigan that offer pathway programs to BGSU.
There’s also a 32% growth in students from several counties in Michigan, where the university offers an in-state tuition scholarship.
This fall, more students are entering having completed Ohio’s College Credit Plus Program (CCP), with a 15% increase from last year’s students who completed college credits. CCP allows high school students to receive college-level academic credits from universities such as BGSU.
According to the university, there is also growth in enrollment within programs like engineering, computer science, construction management and various pre-professional programs.
