The Jerome Library has issued a request for used bubble mailer envelopes.
Every day, the Jerome Library ships out dozens of books in interlibrary loans. To keep these valuable resources in mint condition between destinations, the library needs its falcons’ help.
“The mailers we are looking for are the yellow envelopes or blue and white if they are from Amazon, that are lined with bubble wrap,” Katie Mihaly, the resource sharing and maintenance manager at the Jerome Library, said. “It doesn’t matter if they are a little beat up or have stickers or other writing on them. They will be going inside another bag or box.”
The only requirement is having padded lining to keep the books protected.
“We started doing this both out of necessity and for sustainability,” Mihaly noted the origins of the recycling initiative. “We have always used these bubble mailer envelopes here at the library, so I started bringing my own from home to be reused when I got them and we started saving the ones the library got supplies shipped in and then it just grew from there.”
“If anyone wants to help out, they can bring their mailing envelopes to the first floor circulation desk or put them in the book drop if it’s after hours,” Mihaly said.
Starting on Sept. 12, this recycling initiative is not going anywhere, any time soon.
“We send out a few dozen books daily, either books our patrons have borrowed that are being returned or our books that are going to other libraries. So I don’t anticipate ending up with more envelopes than we can use,” Mihaly said.
In a quick trip to the circulation desk, your trash can become someone else’s treasure, receiving a new purpose for a worthy cause. Recycle your bubble mailer envelopes today at the Jerome Library.
