Women in Business Leadership (WBL), a student-led organization at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), recently hosted their annual Young Women in Leadership Conference, where they welcomed local career women to speak with some of the emerging female leaders at BGSU.
During the three-hour event, students got the opportunity to network with employers, enter into raffles and listen to stories shared by the event’s speakers. Prior to the event, WBL’s chair of special events, Ella Wlodarsky, said she was excited for the event that she and her team had been planning for quite some time.
“The girls have been working so hard all year and planning behind the scenes, so coming in here about two hours before the event started and decorating and just bringing it all together, it’s going to be really cool to see us work as a team,” said Wlodarsky.
The effort that went into preparing for this conference did not go unnoticed, as several BGSU students and conference attendees described the event on social media as a “wonderful experience” and an “amazing opportunity.”
Though WBL provides business students with networking opportunities and ways to make connections, Wlodarsky said that you don’t have to be a business student to be a part of their community.
“A lot of times people think it’s [WBL] just for business students, but we’re actually more of a leadership organization,” said Wlodarsky. “We’re open to any major on campus, so I encourage any incoming freshmen to come and attend our meetings in the spring or the fall.”
At the conclusion of the conference, $17,000 in scholarships were awarded to several attendees. BGSU masters student E’Mmani Jones, Rising Star Award recipient, said she was appreciative of being chosen for this scholarship.
“It means a lot, the Rising Star scholarship,” said Jones. “It means a lot because I feel like I’m being recognized for my hard work that I have put in so far in graduate school.”
