The city of Bowling Green has partnered with BGSU to establish the Bowling Green Law Enforcement Education and Training Center. The facility is expected to be jointly operated, serving as a regional hub for public safety training, professional development in law enforcement and community engagement.

The project received $700,000 through the states capital budget and includes construction of a new indoor firearms training range as well as dedicated classroom space to support law enforcement education and training.

The facility will incorporate modern safety and training technologies, including advanced ventilation systems, ballistic containment measures, lead-capture systems, and technology-enabled scenario training environments. 

Bowling Green Police Division Chief Justin White said the city is looking forward to partnership with Bowling Green State University.

“The Police Division has a longstanding commitment to investing in the professional development and training of our officers,” White said. “This training center will support that commitment, strengthen collaboration with the University and our regional law enforcement partners, expand training opportunities throughout Northwest Ohio.”

BGSU Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety Michael Campbell emphasized the importance of the relationship is between law enforcement and the public.

“The relationship between the public and law enforcement is critically important in building trust, transparency, and accountability,” Campbell said. “Strong, positive connections directly influence safety, trust, and the effectiveness of policing efforts.”

The partnership is expected to enhance the development of law enforcement throughout northwest Ohio.

“The center will provide a space for the continued professional development of law enforcement officers,” Campbell said. “In addition, the center will allow for expanded training opportunities for law enforcement professionals and help to ensure officers have the skills and resources needed to effectively serve and protect their communities.”

The City and University intend to construct the facility on City-owned property adjacent to the Bowling Green Public Works complex at 1040 N. College Drive, subject to final planning, design, and project approvals.

Construction details including a timeline for the center have not been released.
