Swim and Dive team loses first meet of season

The win streak came to an end as the Bowling Green swim and dive team was handed its first loss of the season Saturday against Buffalo.

The Bulls edged the Falcons 154-146 in their last regular season conference meet, ending with a 4-1 conference record.

The Falcons won seven events in the meet. Estela Davis took first in the 100 breaststroke, followed by Maya Skorupski and Haley Roberts for second and third.

Bowling Green also swept the 100 breaststroke, where Kristin Filby took first, Daniela Carrillo finished second and Carmen Young placed third.

Davis placed first in two more events on the day, the 200 backstroke and the 400 individual medley.

In the 200 backstroke, Davis took the win with a time of 2:00.86, just over five seconds ahead of third place Buffalo. Second place was taken by Franziska Wohlert who touched the wall almost three seconds after Davis with a time of 2:03.69.

Despite winning seven events, the Bulls proved strong against the Falcons, particularly in diving and the freestyle races.

Sophomore Victoria Griffin’s unbeaten streak in the 50 freestyle was ended as Buffalo grabbed first place in the 50, 100 and

200 freestyles.

The Bulls also swept the 1000 freestyle.

Buffalo was able to sweep the 1- and 3-meter dives.

Bowling Green continues its season with one more dual meet next weekend against Youngstown State.
