  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

The Bowling Green men’s basketball team wraps up their current road trip with a matchup against the Miami (OH) RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio, on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tip-off at Millett Hall is set for 7 p.m.

With a win, the Falcons would extend their winning streak to three games and mark the best record for BG through 17 games since the 2001-2002 season.

A Bowling Green win would also make Todd Simon just the third BGSU head coach to start MAC play 4-1 in their first season with the Falcons.

Matchup History

Tuesday will mark the 151st all-time meeting between the two teams.

Miami leads the series 90-60, including a 51-19 advantage when playing on their home court.

The RedHawks won the last contest between the teams, defeating the Falcons 74-65 last February.

Miami has won five consecutive games against BG in Oxford, with the last Bowling Green win at Millett Hall dating back to Jan. 16, 2018.

Scouting Miami

Miami enters the contest in sixth place in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), holding an 8-8 overall record and a 2-2 conference record. While they are just 2-6 in road matchups, Miami holds an impressive 6-2 record when playing in Oxford.

After dropping their first two conference games, the RedHawks have won back-to-back games in dominant fashion. They defeated Buffalo by 21 points last Tuesday before beating Eastern Michigan by 17 points on Saturday.

Miami is one of the most efficient offenses in the MAC.

While they score just 74.6 points per game, the eighth-most in the MAC, the RedHawks shoot a blistering 46.9% from the field and 37.8% on three-pointers, ranking third and first in the conference, respectively.

The RedHawks move the ball around as well as anyone in the MAC. They average 15.8 assists per game, by far the best in the conference.

Miami’s defense may be just as good as their offense.

Along with holding opponents to just 28.5% shooting on three-pointers, the best in the MAC, the RedHawks hold opponents to 70.6 points per game and 44.1% shooting from the field, ranking fourth in the conference.

The RedHawks have held their opponents below 70 points scored in three straight games and five of their last six contests.

However, Miami has a glaring weakness: rebounding.

The RedHawks are one of the worst rebounding teams in the MAC. Miami hauls in just 32.2 rebounds and 7.9 offensive rebounds per game, ranking dead last in the conference in both categories.

Opponents grab two-and-a-half more rebounds per game than Miami, giving the RedHawks the third-worst rebounding margin in the MAC.

Scouting Bowling Green

Bowling Green enters the contest in fourth place in the MAC, owning a 12-4 overall record and a 3-1 conference record.

The Falcons have won two straight games and 10 of their last 11 contests.

BG’s offensive numbers do not jump off the page.

The Orange and Brown rank sixth in the MAC with 75.8 points scored per game, eighth with a 44.7% field goal percentage and second-to-last with a 31.2% three-point percentage. They have also struggled at the charity stripe, shooting just 67% on free throws this season, ranking eighth in the conference.

However, BG’s defense has been much more consistent and dominant.

The Falcons hold opponents to just 42.4% shooting from the field, the best mark in the MAC. They also hold opponents to 69 points scored per game and a 33.2% three-point percentage, second and fourth-best in the conference, respectively.

Rebounding has also been a strength for the Falcons.

BG leads the MAC with 38.4 rebounds and 28.0 offensive rebounds per game. However, they have not been as dominant on the offensive boards, grabbing just 10.4 offensive rebounds per game, ranking sixth in the conference.

70 points has been the magic number for the Falcons this season.

When Bowling Green scores 70 or more points, they are 11-0. However, when they fail to score 70 points, they are just 1-4.

The same formula applies to BG’s defense.

When the Falcons hold opponents below 70 points scored, they are 7-0. However, when they allow opponents to score 70 plus points, they are just 5-4.

Falcon Four Players to Watch

Rashaun Agee (Bowling Green #12)

The senior forward continues to play arguably the best basketball of his collegiate career, which garnered him the nod for MAC Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Agee has scored double-digit points in eight straight games, tallying five double-doubles during that span.

The Chicago, Illinois, native leads the MAC with 62.9% field goal percentage and ranks third in the conference with 8.6 rebounds per game and 53 offensive rebounds.

Marcus Hill (Bowling Green #0)

The junior guard continues to do what he does best: score a lot of points.

Hill recorded his 12th consecutive double-digit scoring performance and seventh game this season with at least 20 points scored on Saturday against Northern Illinois.

The Rockford, Illinois, native ranks second in the MAC with 20.1 points per game and leads the conference with 84 free throws made.

Anderson Mirambeaux (Miami #45)

The 6-foot-8-inch, 305-pound senior center missed the first nine games of the season.

However, since making his season debut against Wright State on Dec. 19, Mirambeaux has scored double-digit points in five of Miami’s last seven games and leads the RedHawks with 13.9 points per game.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native was named an All-MAC Honorable Mention last season and a preseason All-MAC Second-Team selection before this season.

Bryce Bultman (Miami #25)

The graduate student forward transferred to Miami after playing the previous four seasons at McKendree University, where he was a three-time First-Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection.

Bultman leads the RedHawks with 5.3 rebounds per game and 46 assists, ranking third on the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.

The Nashville, Illinois, native has scored 14 points in back-to-back games and double-digit points in three of Miami’s past four contests.
