  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Rockets sweep Saturday doubleheader against Falcons

Bowling Green, OH – GM1 Falcons sophomore catcher Ashley Chevalier (14) taking a Rockets runner out in a close play at home plate at Meserve Softball Field in Bowling Green, Ohio

GAME ONE

The Toledo Rockets took game one of Saturday’s doubleheader against Bowling Green softball 7-4.

After a quiet first inning for both teams, the Rockets got the scoring going in the top of the second inning. After getting the first out of the inning, the Rockets strung together three straight hits to load the bases.

With the bases loaded, Lauren Erickson hit an RBI single to get the game’s first run. The Rockets would get three more singles in the inning that scored more runs and the Rockets held a 4-0 lead after one.

The Falcons responded right back in the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons were able to load up the bases with two outs for Aaralyn Nogay. Nogay then slashed a ball to the right-center field gap to clear the bases and make it a 4-3 ball game.

In the top of the third, the Rockets added to their lead after an RBI single. After loading the bases with one out, Sidney Griffith lined a single into left field to score one run, but Nogay fired the ball home in time to nab the second runner trying to score to end the inning.

The Rockets were able to get a runner on second with one out, with Erickson then collecting a hit and a RBI single that scored the runner on second to make it a 6-3 Rockets lead.

BGSU would not go down without a fight in the game. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Falcons were able to get a run off an error and cut the lead back down to two.

In the top of the sixth, the Rockets continued to put the pressure on the Falcons stringing together hits to put runners on second and third with no outs. A dropped fly ball to left field lead for another Rocket to score and make it a 7-4 ball game.

That would be all the Rockets needed as the Falcons took a 7-4 loss in part one of the doubleheader.

GAME TWO

Toledo picked up right where they left off in the first inning. Two singles and two errors led to three unearned runs to cross the plate for the Rockets and took a 3-0 to start the game.

The Rockets didn’t slow down in the second inning, as with two outs, the Rockets strung together two singles and then a two-run RBI double from Jenna Kroll put the Falcons in a 5-0 deficit.

Toledo continued to pound the ball against the Falcons in the top of the third inning. An error on the Falcons allowed two unearned runs to score in the inning for the Rockets. By this point in the game, the Falcons had four errors in the field and after three innings, the Rockets held a 8-0 lead over the Falcons.

When it rains it pours.

The Falcons, who already had a rough game early, could not slow down the Rocket offensive attack. In the top of the fourth inning, the Rockets scored four more runs and put the Falcons down 12-0 in the fourth inning.

That would be enough to end the game after just five innings as the Falcons failed to get a hit against the Rockets.
