Craving a nice home cooked meal? Look no further, Grub Guys, located in the old Wings over BG restaurant on E. Wooster St., has got you covered.
Bowling Green native, Chef Laurence Johnson, is hoping to bring flavor, convenience, and quality food to the city with his new restaurant featuring home cooked dinner bowls for a quick yet healthier alternative to fast food.
“The vision for Grub Guys is new but the vision to serve better quality food for busy people I’ve had for almost a decade,” Johnson said.
The journey to get his business up and running is one that Johnson has been working up to. His 30 years in foodservice inspired him to bring this new vision of food.
“It has been stressful for sure but I feel like this is the path I’ve been set upon so also feel very blessed,” he said.
Being a chef has been a dream of Johnson’s since childhood. Carrying the goal of providing quality meals for everyday working people and families since first starting his journey. For those who have dreams of their own they’d like to follow, Johnson gave this advice.
“However much money you think you need? Double it. However much time you think it’ll take? Double it. Don’t try to rush the process. Take your time and do it right,” he said. “Don’t try to start a business unless you have the discipline and dedication to see it through. It’s hard. You’re gonna have delays. Be resilient. Be determined. Don’t give up. Make sure your why is stronger than your feelings and you’ll make it through.”
As a proud citizen, Johnson hopes that his business will be operational with the help of fellow community members. A Kickstarter, crowd sourced funding platform, was started to help support the efforts of getting Grub Guys up and running. Johnson believes that with continued support his business and vision can come alive.
“Got a chance to start a new franchise in my home city and this community can make it happen,” he said.
