The Wood County District Public Library’s (WCDPL) Bookmobile recently added a new stop to its schedule at Jerome Library on the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) campus.
The Bookmobile is a full-service mobile library that provides a wide range of materials and services to communities within the library’s service district.
WCDPL has offered Bookmobile services in Wood County since 1951. In addition to public stops, library staff provide outreach services to local agencies, organizations and institutions as well as home delivery. The Bookmobile offers library card sign-up, books for all ages, including Spanish language materials, free WiFi while the Bookmobile is parked, and more.
Lauren Johnson, the WCDPL Bookmobile and outreach supervisor, shared that the stop helps the library reach the college-aged audience.
“This is the only college that we are visiting… anybody is able to come to our public stops, but I don’t get a lot of college students at my other stops,” Johnson said. “This is the first time we’re seeing more of that demographic, and I think it’s really important to be right there on campus.”
Although the Bookmobile has only visited campus a few times, Johnson said that there has been early success with the stop.
“We had at least 30 people come on at our first stop this past month… it seemed like the students were really excited… It’s been cool to have that sort of buzz, even on our social media,” Johnson said.
She added that the Bookmobile is designed to cater to a variety of community needs.
“Being able to reach everyone in our service district, regardless of demographic, to make sure everybody has access to library services, books, help, voter registration, our free seed library – it’s not just books.”
The Bookmobile stop at the Jerome Library will continue year-round on the second Tuesday of every month from 4 to 5 p.m. For the full schedule of stops around the Wood County District, visit the Bookmobile Service website.
