Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Dining continues to bring the spirit and flavor to the student body with its newest addition, Ziggy’s Deli. Replacing both Jamba Juice and Houston Street Subs, Ziggy’s brings together both ends of their previous menus.
BGSU Dining Director of Marketing, Communications and Technology, Jon Zachrich, discussed the exciting new partnership with WAAV. This smoothie company based in the West Coast brings a refreshing partnership and more options, like acai bowls.
“One of the things when we pivoted away from Jamba, because they’ve been on campus for 12 years… we made sure we tried to find six to ten most popular smoothies from Jamba and made sure there was a like one with the WAAV organic smoothies. With their program, it was also cool because we could do the acai bowls, which is something we weren’t able to do with Jamba,” Zachrich said.
In hopes of bringing more quality ingredients to the deli, the sub roll sizes required some tinkering.
“The type of sub role we use now is actually called a Cuban roll. So, really, we took away the small and large and kind of like slightly less than large now.”
Zachrich talked about how learning lessons from Houston Street Subs helped them make these decisions. Hoping ultimately to bring in what students wanted.
“I know one of the goals for that was to give a more premium bread, because that was one of the biggest complaints we had of Houston Street was improving the quality of the bread,” he said.
Due to these recent changes, it has brought some price changes to Ziggy’s Deli but for the right reasons. Those quality ingredients come at a price and BGSU Dining is going for gold.
“A lot of the meats are actually hand cut in the back, so we don’t bring any pre-cut meats. What we were trying to do for Ziggy’s Deli was much more like a New York style deli or like a Jersey Mike’s,” Zachrich said.
