Ava: Hi, I’m Ava Thoman, and this is Community Corner, where we talk about interesting topics with people in the Bowling Green Community. Today, we’re discussing one of the oldest campus groups and all that they do. With Panda and Blue, two of the members of SICSIC. Thanks for joining me.
Panda: Of course, happy to be here.
Ava: Yeah, first off, what is SICSIC.
Panda: Yeah so SICSIC is what you just said, the oldest active organization here at BGSU. But what we do is we love to spread spirit. And not only in ways like you see Freddy and Frieda, but we like to do kind of like the behind the scenes works. Whether that’s hanging signs on campus in the red and black or handing out Laffy Taffy, we don’t like banana taffy.
Blue: You’ll often see us just around, out late. Stop throwing stuff.
Panda: But it’s a good time and we just love serving the university and the campus.
Blue: The community.
Ava: Yeah, and happy birthdays are in order. Tell us a little bit about what’s happening later this week.
Blue: Yeah, so, our organization started Oct. 5, 1946, so in a couple days its our birthday. Unfortunately, it’s over fall break, so we can’t truly celebrate, but we made some signs, we have some TikToks to post. What happened that night at 2:17 a.m., a bunch of our alumni were invited to meet with the president at the time, Prout and they talked about what they wanted the group to be, organized it and here we are.
Ava: Wow.
Panda: Fun fact about that actually is they all went to Prout’s office, who was the current president, but he was actually in the hospital at the time. Not many people know that.
Blue: They met with his secretary instead.
Panda: Fun fact.
Ava: Okay, well happy birthday. It seems as if you were gifted a little vacation for your birthday.
Panda: I know, 79 years.
Ava: Now, Panda, we’ve heard a little bit about these girlfriends that you have. Do you care to explain?
Panda: Well you see. I only have five, but I only have one wife. You really hit me with this one. So I honestly just love making friends and sometimes they have the wrong impressions, you know and I try not to lead them on, but sometimes the ladies, they need to chill a little bit.
Blue: He’s received like three different girl’s phone numbers.
Ava: Oh wow.
Blue: At least.
Panda: Shout out 6-1-4. I do like to get around at times, the rumor is true, I guess you could say.
Ava: Okay, and to wrap things up, do you guys have any special plans for the Battle of I-75?
Blue: We have a little special surprise for those attending the game. It’ll be good.
Panda: All I’m saying is show up and be hungry. That’s all I’ll say.
