Sister Cindy stops at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) on Oct. 8 during her HoNoMo Fall 2025 Tour.
Cindy Smock, known online as Sister Cindy, preached her thoughts on religion and sexuality to a crowd of around 200 college students at the Union Oval, starting at noon.
Sister Cindy has built a following online with her videos about how to become healthier religiously, mentally and sexually. She has 37.4 thousand followers on Instagram and 410.6 thousand followers on TikTok.
During her speech, Sister Cindy discussed the afterlife, according to her perspective on Christianity.
“This is sad if you think about it, but there are virgins in Hell as we speak. They are what Sister Cindy calls ‘spiritual hos,'” said Sister Cindy during her speech.
During her time at BGSU, she also discussed her different levels of “hos.”
“She’s telling us not to be hos and then virgins can be hos and you can be a giga-ho and you can be a mega-ho. You could be all types of hos,” said Cayla Aubrey Torres, a sophomore studying human development and family science.
Torres did not know who Sister Cindy was prior to her arrival at BGSU and was confused as to if she was being serious.
“I think some of it [what Sister Cindy says] is serious,” Torres said. “I think she might actually be a spiritual person, I think she’s real about the Bible side. But, I think some of it is more for shock value.”
Along with Torres, Ryan Waldman, a junior majoring in electronics and computer engineering believes it’s a “joke.”
“There’s no way this isn’t satire. There’s no way,” Waldman said.
Waldman feels as though Sister Cindy has progressed into who she is now due to her fame on social media.
“From my understanding, what she does now is more a joke than anything else. She used to be very Christian, so it’s funny to see the change,” Waldman said.
Sister Cindy has some fans that follow her while she is on tour. Mary Gordon has gone to six of her speeches in the last two weeks.

“I met her [Sister Cindy] at my sister’s house about 20 years ago. My sister lived five blocks from her,” Gordon said.
Gordon and her family that joined her are from Pennsylvania and travel to hear her preach. Gordon emphasizes that students should listen to Sister Cindy because “people need to have Jesus.”
“People need to have Jesus because without the Lord, there’s no sense,” Gordon said. “Life has three parts; our physical, our mental and our spiritual sense.”
Allison Burns, a freshman majoring in education waited for 30 minutes to get a spot closer to Sister Cindy.
“I actually was here probably like 30 minutes before she got here because I knew she was going to arrive,” Burns said. “As soon as she said, ‘you guys can come closer’ I ran with the crowd to get close to her.”

As part of Sister Cindy’s tour, she regularly calls on students to hear about their lives to help decide if they are a “ho” in Sister Cindy’s sense.
“The calling people out. That’s the part I don’t like. I don’t want you to point at somebody and say, ‘whore,'” Burns said.
Overall, Burns says Sister Cindy has a “good message” about loving your body.
“I think it’s a good message. Even if you don’t necessarily believe in Christianity, I think it’s still a good message to love your body and save yourself for someone who’s really important,” Burns said.
According to Brother Jed’s website, Sister Cindy’s late husband, she was a student at University of Florida studying journalism.
“On New Year’s Day I [Brother Jed] baptized her in the Gulf of Mexico. Soon afterwards the words “Go ye and preach” came to Cindy in a vision. But she returned to school, continued her job with the newspaper and almost forgot the incident. At school Cindy continued to seek God with her whole heart,” as written in Sister Cindy’s bio.
Sister Cindy was first initiated into The Campus Ministry, a group Brother Jed and Brother Max founded, at BGSU.
“…when we were coming back from lunch after church, Cindy looked at the campus and saw a crowd of students lying in the sun near a pond. The girls were lying out in their bikini bathing suits and the boys were next to them in cutoffs. The Lord spoke to her heart telling her to preach to those students,” as written in the bio.
Today, Sister Cindy travels to college campuses all over the nation preaching to students.
She uses donations and sales from her merch to fund this tour.
