Ava Thoman: Welcome to the community corner where we talk about interesting topics with people in the Bowling Green community I’m Ava Thoman and today we’re discussing the FadWatch fashion show with Navaeh Johnson, the public relations chair for FadWatch, thanks for joining me.
Navaeh Johnson: Thank you, I’m excited to be here.
Thoman: Of course. And now to get started, what is FadWatch?
Johnson: FadWatch is a fashion organization here on campus. We like to promote individuality and just showing self-confidence through enrichment of fashion.
Thoman: Now, the theme of the next fashion show is the “Evolution of Black Fashion,” so what can guests expect from that?
Johnson: So, we start with the 50s and we make our way all the way up to current. So, you can expect a lot of different looks, a lot of different background through the eras, a lot of explanations of what each era meant and kind of the effect that it had on the fashion that we use here today as well.
Thoman: And how many looks do you expect will be shown on the runway?
Johnson: Quite a few. We have about 15 models. So, each model has their own individual look for each scene that they’re in for the show. So, you can expect about five different scenes for each era. So, quite a few looks for you guys.
Thoman: Sounds like it. And, what all goes into planning a runway show?
Johnson: So it starts with the auditions. The board hold auditions for the models to see which model has the confidence, which model has the thrive for fashion too and the individuality and the personality with it as well. So that starts it, and then from there we reach out to the models. We ask them to join us per se to join the show, join the organization. And, from there, we practice about four days out of the week up until the show for about a month and a half. And then, day of the show, we prepare with the models. We make sure they have all the clothing items that they need. We have vendors as well that we use for the show. And then, we put on a great show.
Thoman: Well, that sounds like a lot, and I’m so glad you guys are doing it this year. When and where is the show?
Johnson: So, the show is this Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Ballroom in the Union. It starts at 7 p.m.
Thoman: All right, and now for those interested, how can they buy a ticket?
Johnson: So, we’re at Union Tables, Monday through Friday. You can also get them virtually as well, but if you want to get them in person, we’ll be at the Union Tables at noon to 4 p.m.
Thoman: All right. Thank you so much for joining me. That is all for this week’s edition of Community Corner. Back to Lindsay.
