On Sunday, March. 1, BG’s [Bowling Green] Frosty Fare hosted their seasonal opening at the store located on W Poe Road from 12 to 9 p.m.
They offered a flavor lineup including peanut butter yogurt, orange fruit freeze, and chocolate and vanilla soft serve. They also brought out their hard dip flavors, including the new addition of the Dubai chocolate dip. Now with the seasonal opening completed, they will be scooping all summer season, and with it have come some new changes to the store.
Robin Belleville, owner and manager of BG’s Frosty Fare, discussed some of those key changes that will come about this season. She first shared a bit of background about the business.
“My husband and I purchased this business in 2012, and so I’m heading into my 15th season…” adding that “this is my full-time gig even though we are open about seven months out of the calendar year,” Belleville said.
She expressed that she is excited about reopening for the season, and adds that there have been some new changes made around the store.
“We are introducing a new specialty sundae this year… we were able to get our hands on Twix candy… so that’s very exciting,” Belleville said.
She also mentioned that they have done some cosmetic changes around the store.
“I have a new logo I just got my hands on a couple of days ago… our lobby is all repainted… we went from an orange and egg blue to a cream and gray coloration, so it’s a lot more tame,” Belleville said.
However, with inflation impacting many local businesses, many prices will get higher and higher.
“Most of my menu prices did go up as my staff got a pay bump, my utilities will be going up significantly, and my input costs have also increased, Belleville said. “I tried to keep the pricing changes minimal as I realize the economy is tight and families don’t have a lot of excess fun money… the changes are only 25-50 [cents] for items, so it’s not a huge change.”
As the season is just beginning, Belleville is “excited” to provide the community with a summer treat.
“I’m excited to get started here again… we’ll be open on the weekends from noon to 9 p.m. and then on weekdays from 3 to 9 p.m.”
She also mentioned that during the summer, when everyone is out of school, they will open earlier on weekdays at 11 a.m. As well as that, later this week, they will open up orders to DoorDash and mentioned that this is their third year working together.
So with cones in hand and customers excited, their newest season has officially kicked off with a sweet start.
