Preparing Bowling Green State University (BGSU) students for the workforce drove the AI [artificial intelligence] and the Future of Work Summit, which the Schmidthorst College of Business hosted on April 16.
Speakers discussed topics such as risk intelligence and resiliency, AI strategy and governance, how agentic AI reduces business cyber risk and more.
One of the students in attendance, Katrina Roby, a sophomore majoring in individualized business, wanted to earn extra credit and learn more about AI.
“I’m here for the summit because I saw an extra credit assignment that I could attend and that would be interesting to hear about AI because I know it’s been a wide-open topic that’s been discussed in many classes of mine,” Roby said.
At the conference, Roby said she learned that AI can be a tool humans work with, not against.
“I’ve learned that a lot of the AI implemented is not going to take as many jobs as everyone makes it seem like, it’s more of a tool that people are using and that it’s showing a lot about impacts in certain workplaces where it can just make things easier for people around, and the human aspect is still staying in there,” Roby said.
Gavin Klemn, a sophomore majoring in data analytics and finance, attended the AI summit because he already has a heavy interest in AI
“The reason I attended this program was because I already built software with AI, and I have agentic workflows with marketing with AI for a couple different companies,” Klemn said.
Students also attended the summit to better understand how AI connects to their fields of study.
“…I’m in data computing in numerical literacy, and I feel like AI is starting to get into that field,” said Kyrsten Caudill, a freshman majoring in individualized business.
Drake Sifferlin, a sophomore majoring in finance, went to the summit because AI is becoming more prevalent in the business field.
“I recently got more into finance, and I know that AI is a big sector or becoming a big sector for finance, and they’re gonna hit the whole industry. So, I want to learn more about finance,” Sifferlin said.
