It sure does feel good to have volleyball back in action.

Of course all followers of BGSU Volleyball know the successful weekend the Falcons had last week, finishing 2-1 with wins over East Tennessee State and Northern Kentucky, while giving #14 Ohio State everything they could handle in a five-set thriller.

But as the season gets underway, Falcon fans should know what else has gone down around the Mid-American Conference landscape.

Here is a breakdown of what has transpired in the conference standings:

MAC EAST DIVISION STANDINGS:

  1. Buffalo (3-0): Wins vs Austin Peay (3-0), at University of Alabama-Birmingham (3-2), vs Florida A&M (3-1)
  2. Bowling Green (2-1): SEE ABOVE
  3. Miami (2-1): Loss vs Samford (0-3), wins vs Alcorn State (3-0), at Memphis (3-0)
  4. Ohio (2-1): Loss vs UMBC (2-3), wins at James Madison (3-0), vs High Point (3-1)
  5. Akron: (0-3): Losses vs Valparaiso (0-3), vs Louisiana-Monroe (2-3), at Eastern Illinois (1-3)
  6. Kent State (0-3): Losses at Butler (0-3), vs UC San Diego (1-3), vs Fresno State (1-3)

MAC WEST DIVISION STANDINGS:

  1. Western Michigan (3-0): Wins vs Milwaukee (3-1), vs Northern Iowa (3-1), vs Villanova (3-1)
  2. Ball State (2-1): Wins vs Gonzaga (3-0), vs Purdue Fort Wayne (3-0), loss vs Oklahoma (1-3)
  3. Toledo (1-2): Win vs Northeastern (3-2), losses at Wake Forest (0-3), vs Grand Canyon (0-3)
  4. Central Michigan (0-3): Losses vs Southern Illinois (1-3), at SE Missouri St. (1-3), vs Evansville (2-3)
  5. Eastern Michigan (0-3): Losses vs SIU Edwardsville (1-3), vs IUPUI (2-3), at Bradley (1-3)
  6. Northern Illinois (0-3):  Losses vs Chicago State (2-3), vs Illinois (1-3), at Chicago State (1-3)

 

NOTABLE MAC STORYLINES:

  1. Three Western Michigan Broncos swept the MAC West Player of the Week awards, with Keona Salesman earning Offensive Player of the Week, Andelyn Simkins earning Defensive Player of the Week, and Logan Case earning Setter of the Week.
  2. In the MAC East, BGSU freshman Amanda Otten took home the division’s offensive player of the week award in just her first collegiate tournament of her career. The Batavia, Ill. recorded a pair of double-doubles against Ohio State and Northern Kentucky, while recording a .526 hitting percentage against the Norse.
  3. A pair of Ohio Bobcats took home the rest of the MAC East honors, as Sam Steele earned Defensive Player of the Week, while Parker Kwiatkowski earned Setter of the Week.
