The BGSU volleyball program has announced via X that Chelsi Carter has been promoted to associate head coach by head coach Alex DelPiombo. Carter joined the team for the start of the 2025 season as one of the three assistant coaches during Delpiombo’s first year as the head coach.
“I couldn’t be more excited to promote Chelsi to Associate Head Coach,” said DelPiombo. “She has been a cornerstone of our staff and an integral part of our program. In a year that brought both professional growth and personal milestones for me, she was passionate, selfless, and all-in every single day.”
Carter arrived in Bowling Green after three years as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama. With the Crimson Tide, Carter helped nine players earn CSC Academic All-District honors, and one earn the SEC Volleyball Community Service Team.
“To be surrounded by this staff, support staff, and a fearless leader is a lucky place to be,” said Carter. “I would not be able to achieve this title without the people I burned the midnight oil with. Alex sets a high standard, not only for herself but for our players, staff, and she’s right there with you through it all (even at nine months pregnant during two-a-days and postpartum), I’m extremely grateful she’s in my corner! Alex creates space for authenticity, grit, honesty, family, trust, and balance.”
In her first season on staff, Carter aided the Falcons to a 17-15 record while going 10-8 in Mid-American Conference play. As a former libero herself, Carter’s main focus was on the back row play, which improved considerably from the start to the end of the season. Carter also assisted in the Falcons’ MAC Tournament appearances and a tournament win over Ohio.
“A reality of ambitious people being surrounded by ambitious people, something that a true competitor dreams of,” stated Carter. “She [Delpiombo] leads and mentors me not only as a coach, but also as a human being, a friend, and a mentor myself. I love what I get to do. Thank you, Alex, for being you! Always in your corner. AY ZIGGY!”
