Finders Records, a local record store that has been permanently closed since July 28, 2023, has been in vacation/retirement mode as owner Greg Halamay awaits a potential buyer for the business.
Finders Records was an independent music retailing store, where customers could look at and purchase vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and import and domestic releases. The store had been open since 1971 and was loved by many members of the BG community.
“I really liked to go to Finders because all the people that worked there were super nice,” said Jarrett Jimenez, a BGSU alum. “They had a wide range of records and posters that you could get, and it was a great store.”
When the store announced it was closing on social media, many residents were sad to see the store go, but they only had positive things to say about their experience.
“Thank you for all the music you brought to those who walked through your doors through the years!” a community member said. “I will always remember just being able to browse at my leisure and how the staff was so helpful to offer suggestions to those of us who weren’t quite sure of what we wanted.”
“This was home for me and my friends at BG. Finders was a major part of my college experience and will always be remembered,” another community member said.
The store still sits closed and vacant, and many are not sure why. The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce says they are not sure why the store hasn’t been sold yet.
“I don’t really have any information to share with you regarding Finders,” said Mary Hinkleman, the BG City of Commerce Executive Director. “I understand that the business is for sale, but other than that, I’m sorry I don’t have any answers for you.”
After two years, it is unknown how long Finders will remain on the market, leaving BG community members uncertain of the store’s future.
