Vague is an up-and-coming band starting in July of 2025, performing in the grunge-gaze genre. The band is made up of three BGSU alums, singer and bass player Mare, lead guitarist Nolan and Ryan on the drums.
About three years ago, Mare saw an advertisement for a garage band in Findlay and when she checked it out, she was introduced to Ryan. The two played together for some time before going their separate ways.
Shortly after, Mare and Nolan, who became friends at BGSU, decided to start a band. The pair was just missing a drummer, but because of that garage band advertisement, Mare knew exactly who to bring in.
When Mare reached out to Ryan, he had moved out of Bowling Green to Sidney, Ohio for a sports writing position. Ryan was adamant on joining however, and a few months later quit his job and moved back into town, solidifying the start of Vague.
“Nolan and I had been working on it for a couple months, him and I just playing guitar,” she said. My biggest fear was telling everybody we were starting a band and then it not come to fruition.”
The name Vague came from Mare.
“We were still waiting on Ryan, so we were trying to remain hush-hush about it,” she said. “I looked at Nolan and said what about the name Vague?”
Nolan graduated from Bowling Green in May of 2026, majoring in electronics and computer engineering technology. Mare graduated with a degree in media production and Ryan was a sport management major.
The trio is currently recording an E.P. (extended play), which they said they hope to release in the coming weeks. Vague is also performing a live show on June 19 at Howard’s Club H in Bowling Green.
