The City of Bowling Green Fire Division Union is hosting its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser in an effort to raise money for the Wood County Hospital Oncology Department for local breast cancer patients.
For the third year in a row, people interested can buy a shirt ranging in price from $19 to $25 to raise money for the department.
If people want to donate additional funds or do not want a shirt, they can donate with cash or a check made out to the Bowling Green Firefighters Local 2379.
When discussing shirt sales, Firefighter Paramedic Josh Riedel said, “We donate 100% of the proceeds.”
This year’s shirt design features a BG Fire Department logo with a pink ribbon in the middle on the front and an American Flag with a pink stripe reading “Breast Cancer Awareness” on the back.
“The t-shirt is actually something the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) does on a larger scale, which is our big union. So we’re able to kind of borrow that idea and utilize it here in Bowling Green,” Riedel said.
This cause hits close to home for many BG firefighters, so many want to contribute in some way locally.
“For a couple of us here at the station, we’ve got family members that have dealt with breast cancer in the past and me personally, it was my mother. So I’ve always wanted to do something locally for breast cancer patients,” Riedel said.
For some BG Firefighters, the cause hits close to home so many want to contribute locally.
“All the money, every cent, stays local. So when we donate it, we make sure that that money gets tapped specifically for local residents who are dealing with breast cancer,” Riedel said. “So we’re really excited about how much that’s able to help local people here in Bowling Green.”
Cash or check donations may be dropped off or mailed to Bowling Green Firefighters Local 2379, Station 1, 552 E. Court Street, Bowling Green, OH 43402.
