Officer Adam Skaff has been with the Bowling Green Police Division for his entire adult life, starting in 2002 and was recently promoted to the position of deputy chief this past May.
During his years working in the city, he has held various roles within the division, including serving as a member of a special investigations unit, detective, sergeant and lieutenant.
Skaff oversees the other three bureau commanders in his new role, but his focus is on improving technology within the division.
“Technology is constantly evolving,” Skaff said. “I want to make sure that we stay up to date on plate reader cameras, to cameras downtown, to investing in things like body cams and in-car cameras. We’ve been very proactive in implementing some of those programs and it makes a big difference, not only for our officers but for the community.”
Skaff is a part of Bowling Green’s human relations commission and a board member of Welcome BG. His new position now allows him to be even more involved with his roles in the community.
“I focus less on some of the day-to-day stuff from my previous roles, now focusing on the bigger picture,” Skaff said. “I have more ability to attend the meetings, talk to people and hear concerns from citizens and students.”
The promotion process to become deputy chief consisted of a test and interview process with the division’s lieutenants.
Working in Bowling Green has made Skaff appreciate the community he helps with his position as a police officer.
“The majority of people in this city support the police division, so it’s been nice working in a city that supports the officers and having people who understand and respect what we do,” Skaff said.
