BGSU women’s basketball (5-4) beat the Defiance Yellow Jackets (3-8) in a Sunday afternoon matchup in the Stroh Center with a final score of 118-35.
In the win, the ball movement for the Falcons was impressive, with BGSU having 22 assists on 42 shots made.
“I think our unselfishness to share the ball really helped us get the win today,” redshirt junir guard Jasmine Fearne said postgame.
A season high in assists for the Orange and Brown, and the second game in a row where they have had 20 or more assists.
“It’s always one of our keys going into games, which is great ball movement,” head coach Fred Chmiel said. “For one, it creates a little bit of synergy on offense; also, the ball will find who needs to shoot it, so ball movement is really important to us.”
An emphasis on ball movement has the Falcons’ offense trending in the right direction.
“Our field goal percentage is way up, I think our three-point percentage is trending upward,” coach Chmiel said.
Although there have been some ups and downs early in the season, the message to the team stays the same.
Regardless of the score, regardless of what defense we are in, regardless of what we are running offensively, our motor is running, and it’s gonna run at a high rate of speed,” Chmiel said.
A good sense of direction for the Falcons’ offense can help them to get on the right track as they move closer toward Mid-American Conference play.
“It’s a good game to play to tune up for the challenges ahead. Lourdes is going to be a challenge, as well as Le Moyne, and then of course our conference. We’ve got to get better, more consistent, disciplined, and we know that,” Chimel stated.
As the Falcons move towards MAC play, they will be looking to keep the momentum going forward as they look to get back to the tournament this season.
The Falcons are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. as they welcome the Lourdes Gray Wolves to the Stroh Center. Falcon Media Sports Networks’ Adam Duffin and Trey Kennedy will have the live radio broadcast with Pregame set to start at 1:45 p.m.
