BGSU hockey’s graduating senior defenseman Jackson Niedermayer has signed with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) San Diego Gulls for the 2026-27 season.
Niedermayer spent two seasons with Bowling Green after beginning his college career with Arizona State where he spent three seasons.
In his 65 career games as a Falcon, Niedermayer scored seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points while skating as both a forward and a defenseman.
In his final season of college hockey, spent mostly as a defenseman, Niedermayer impressed on both ends of the ice while scoring 17 points made up of five goals and 12 assists.
Niedermayer signed his first career professional contract with the San Diego Gulls’ ECHL affiliate, the Tulsa Oilers, following BG’s season coming to an end following a loss in the first round of the CCHA playoffs.
Niedermayer skated in 17 ECHL games with the Oilers as a defenseman and scored one goal and six assists.
For this upcoming season, Niedermayer will be making the jump up to the AHL with the San Diego Gulls, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks.
Niedermayer joins Gustav Stjernberg (Colorado Avalanche), Jaden Grant (Toledo Walleye) and Quinn Emerson (Abbotsford Canucks) as members of last season’s BGSU roster who have signed professional contracts.
The Gulls recorded a 33-27-8-4 record last season and had their season come to an end following a series loss to the Colorado Eagles in the first round of the AHL playoffs.
Niedermayer and the Gulls will open the 2026-27 season on the road against the San Jose Barracuda on Oct. 3.
