Bowling Green State University’s (BGSU) Democracy and Public Policy Network is introducing a new professional development program for K-12 teachers: the CIVICs 250 Scholars Program. This program intends to support nonpartisan social studies education throughout Ohio.
Invigorated by a grant from the United States (U.S.) Department of Education, the Democracy and Public Policy Network is seeking its first cohort of 40 Ohio educators, hoping to strengthen American history and civics instruction across districts.
Applications for the inaugural class of scholars are open through Jan. 28.
Scholars gain support from learning communities across the state, as well as access to various lessons and resources: from founding documents like the U.S. Constitution and Federalist Papers to explainer videos addressing key principles and ideas in American government.
The CIVICs 250 program will include monthly virtual meetings throughout the school year, culminating in a week-long summer seminar on BGSU’s campus. Scholars will receive contact hour credits, stipends and VIP Access to BGSU campus programming such as the annual Day of Dialogue and Leadership Luncheon.
As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary this July, the Democracy and Public Policy Network amplifies the education of our country’s traditions, ideas and progress.
