BGSU baseball vs Oakland: Falcons take a trip up to Michigan for mid-week game

Bowling Green baseball (12-10) is coming off a rocky three-game series against Xavier University. Where they dropped two out of the three games on Easter weekend.   

The Falcons did manage to pick up the win in the final game of the series on Saturday, some momentum they will look to continue as they face off against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (12-15).  

The first pitch falls at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Oakland Baseball field in Rochester, Michigan.  

Matchup History  

The Falcons hold a 20-6 lead over the Golden Grizzlies all time.  

Bowling Green won the last two matchups in Rochester last season and has won 3 of the last 4 meetings between the two teams altogether.  

Scouting Bowling Green  

Bowling Green found itself a bump in the road over the weekend but managed to pick up a win in the final game of the series vs Xavier. 

The Falcons have won 10 of their last 13 games.  

Bowling Green has the highest run total of any team in the MAC this season with 214. 

The Orange and Brown have been prone to allowing high run totals this season, last week was no different where they allowed Xavier to score 25 runs throughout the three-game stretch.  

Scouting Oakland  

Coming directly off of a loss to Toledo 3-2 on Monday, April 1st. 

The Grizzlies have won five of their last six games with one of the wins being against Michigan State University 11-7.  

Oakland had been swept earlier in the season by Miami (OH) in a three-game series, a series in which they allowed the Red Hawks to score 46 total runs.  

Falcon Four players to watch.  

DJ Newman (Bowling Green #28) 

If there is any player in college baseball that defines the term two-way, it is DJ Newman. 

The sophomore pitcher now has an ERA of 3.06 which puts him second in the MAC as well as a total of 33 strikeouts on the year at the mound. 

Newman at the pitcher position has a current hit-to-run ratio of 30 hits to 29 total runs, a run total that puts him among the top 10 of all batters in the MAC.  

Nathan Archer (Bowling Green #8) 

Archer has continued his streak from last year of playing every game in a season so far throughout this year, playing and starting for all 22 games. 

In third place in the MAC on home runs with 31.  

Leads the team and holds third place in the conference for RBIs with 28 so far this season. 

Leads the Falcons In home runs with seven. 

Lucas Day (Oakland #8) 

Leads the Golden Grizzlies in both hits (38) and home runs (8), a home run total that is higher than any Falcon players.  

Day is in second place among Oakland with a batting average of .391 on 92 at-bats this season so far. 

Leads Oakland in RBIs with 30, another total that is higher than any player for the Falcons. 

Carter Hain (Oakland #35) 

Has the highest batting average among eligible Oakland players with .413 

Has 21 RBIs on only a total of 46 at-bats so far in this season.
