BGSU Baseball (19-35, 12-21) lost their final games of the regular season against the Ball State Cardinals (25-28,18-15) in a double-header contest on Friday, May 15, in Muncie, Indiana.
The contest resulted in two losses for Bowling Green, falling in all three games of the series against BSU after being eliminated from the MAC tournament on Friday.
“It was a grind for 17 of the 18 innings” said BGSU head baseball coach Kyle Hallock
Game One
Game one at Shebek Stadium set the momentum for the Cardinals who clinched the MAC tournament in game one of the three-game series. Ball State continued their momentum from the day before and took game one 6-5.
The Cardinals dominated early, scoring five runs in the first two innings highlighted by a home run from sophomore Brayden Huebner. He recorded two home runs in the game, one in the second inning and another in the fourth.
Ball State took advantage of the lead and held BGSU scoreless through four consecutive innings twice.
The Orange and Brown lost their two-run lead in the top of the first inning and failed to respond until a home run from sophomore Carter Mottice in the fifth inning. BG then failed to score until the top of the ninth inning, where Zack Horky came home on a passed ball.
Game Two
The final game of the series and the season for Bowling Green resulted in a 10-2 loss. Ball State won by scoring 10 unanswered runs after the Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Ball State’s biggest advantage was their ability to get on base. They notched 13 hits and five walks throughout the contest, significantly more than Bowling Green’s five hits and four walks.
The Cardinals’ offense was led by junior catcher Tommy Landsnes’s three hits and a run in five at-bats. Kendric Sorgius led the team with four RBIs as Ball State marked nine total during the game.
“I give our guys credit for everything they did this season, we’ll be back” said Hallock.
