According to Wood County Common Pleas Court records, a warrant was issued Thursday for Daylen Dunson, 25, after he failed to appear in court for a hearing regarding his reported violations of the terms of community control, to which he was sentenced after his conviction on several charges regarding the 2021 hazing death of BGSU student Stone Foltz.
Dunson was the president of the Pi Kappa Alpha (the Pikes) fraternity when Foltz, 20 at the time, odrank the equivalent of about 40 shots of liquor at a March 7, 2021 event. Foltz died three days later of alcohol poisoning.
In May 2022, Dunson pleaded guilty to a number of counts, including reckless homicide, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, obstructing official business, eight counts of misdemeanor hazing, and seven counts regarding providing alcohol to underage persons. Some 13 months later, he was sentenced by a Wood County judge to 21 days in jail and 28 days of house arrest, in addition to three years of probation for his role in Foltz’s death. BGSU administrators expelled three students and suspended 18 others after Stone’s death.
Cleveland.com reported that, according to court records, Dunson has not verified his 100 hours of required community control work. Records also show he tested positive for the use of cocaine on April 2 of this year.
WTOL reported that Sean Alto, an attorney for the family of Stone Foltz, issued this statement: “Daylen Dunson continues to ignore the seriousness of this case. Actions have consequences—plain and simple. If Mr. Dunson continues to ignore the obligations he has to the Court, I fully expect that he will soon feel the consequences when he is arrested and is held accountable for his willful violation of his bond conditions.”
The university agreed to a $2.9 million settlement with the Foltz family over the hazing death.
