Memorial Day weekend arrives in a few days, marking the unofficial start of summer. Apparently, Mother Nature didn’t get the memo.
While normal high temperatures for late may in Northwest Ohio are in the mid- to upper 70s, according to multiple forecasts, we won’t get above the mid-60s and high temperatures in the middle of the week won’t get above 60. On top of that, according to The Weather Channel, showers are possible Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Weather Service forecast features likely thunderstorms and significant rainfall, with showers and thunderstorms bringing between a quarter inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain between Tuesday and Thursday. While it’s still early, the two forecasts differ slightly on Memorial Day weekend with the Weather Channel continuing to call for mostly cloudy while the National Weather Service forecast calls for a mostly sunny day.
Meanwhile, severe weather continues to threaten much of the country’s midsection after 28 deaths were confirmed across Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. AccuWeather also reported that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said 18 people died in that state during the storms. Meanwhile, Fox Weather reported that Plevna, Kansas also took a direct hit from a nighttime tornado.
A swath from Dallas to Kansas City appears to the most likely area for the next batch of dangerous storms but AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Mike Youman said areas hit by last week’s storms may be in for more severe weather.
“Damaging wind gusts, hail and tornadoes will be possible once again which can exacerbate the damage that has occurred in some areas and delay cleanup efforts in others,” Youman said.
Accuweather forecasters said that weather system will move east by Tuesday with the lower three-quarters of Ohio in its path. The strong system is not expected to have an impact on Northwest Ohio.
