We will soon get relief from the brutal heat and humidity punishing the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory that started Monday will end this evening as the weather pattern will shift to more tolerable conditions with highs in the 80s Wednesday and the 70s for the remainder of the week.
The Heat Index across the area straddled the 100s with the combination of highs in the 90s and humidity above 70% making for hot and sticky days and uncomfortable nights. The high relative humidity reduces evaporation of all that moisture and the cooling we experience most evenings, which creates a cycle that makes things more uncomfortable. The annual arrival of “corn sweat” played a role in the elevated humidity.
The closing weekend for the Wood County Fair looks to be a lot more comfortable than the opening weekend with most forecasts calling for sunny days with highs in the upper 70s and clear evenings with temperatures dipping into the 50s.
All things considered, it’s been a pretty normal July in Bowling Green. Average rainfall through this time of year is 19.11 inches and we’ve had about 18.5 inches so far; average high temperatures for July are 80.8, which is the exact historical average.
