Reports of a forced landing at Wood County Regional Airport occurred on Wednesday, Sept 3.
The forced landing resulted in minor injuries to the student pilot and Federal Aviation Administration pilot examiner.
BGSU released the following statement:
“Today, on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a BGSU student and designated pilot examiner with the FAA were flying in a multi-engine aircraft near BG and made a forced landing north of the Wood County [Regional] Airport. The student, who was nearing graduation, was being evaluated by the examiner for a commercial pilot license, which requires landing an aircraft during a simulation of an engine failure. During this simulation, the FAA examiner took over the aircraft, landing the plane in a field adjacent to the airport.”
The university went on to add, “Both the student and the examiner experienced minor injuries and are reported to be doing well. The student was taken to Wood County Hospital as a precaution. BGSU is grateful for the quick actions and response and will continue to work with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and FAA.”
Both the Bowling Green Fire Department and Bowling Green Police Department were called out to the scene. The investigation is now being taken over by BGSU, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the FAA.
After calling the Wood County Regional Airport, they were unable to provide a comment at this time.
