Week one saw the Falcons only score one offensive touchdown, which was a Mar’Kel Porter four-yard touchdown run.
Only scoring the lone touchdown on offense raised concern from the community heading into week two, down in Cincinnati, about how this offense will be in 2025.
The best part about week one in any sport is the overreactions. Whether they’re good or bad. And in most cases, the overreactions get out of bed by week 2.
Well, the offense made sure to put those concerns to bed in Cincinnati.
The Falcons’ first couple of drives on Saturday didn’t look like anything we should be excited for. But I would say for three quarters the offense showed tons of light in how well they can be put together, especially in the second half as they outscored the Bearcats 17-13 in the second half.
Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George wants it to be known that quarterback Drew Pyne is still developing with things here, as he didn’t have a spring with the Falcons. So any progress made is good progress.
“Where Drew was in terms of not having a spring. I feel like we’re getting the train on the tracks, and we just have to stay diligent and work hard and get better every day and learning from these losses.”
So the training wheels are starting to come off for the offense and showing signs of growth.
Now, the next part is learning how to finish.
“We’re showing signs of growth, but we’ve got to learn how to finish. And that’s only gonna be done through time. That’s gonna be done through the course of the season,” said George.
George, who thought Pyne grew in the second half of that game, is looking forward to how the offense will progress over the next couple of games.
“I saw growth out of Drew Pyne. Really opened up the offense a bit, have really married with the run game really well. Now we just have to, again, figure out a few things,” said George. “When you look at the game, you break it down into two halves, you know, we won the second half, and that’s what I challenged my team with.”
The Falcons’ offense looked dramatically different in the second half than what we saw in the first half this past Saturday.
Even stretching it back to last Thursday, you thought for a second in the back of your mind that maybe this offense is just too one-dimensional, but as mentioned, the best part about week 1 is the overreactions, and Falcon fans are sure happy that the offense has found a rhythm.
If the Falcon offense can look like how they did in the second half against Cincinnati, then we’re in for a lot of fun over these next couple of months with how young this team is and how they will develop.
