The Wood County District Public Library (WCDPL) will welcome the community to a celebration of its 150th anniversary Saturday Sept. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The event will include a cake cutting, a history tour, party games and trivia and will take place in the library at 251 N. Main St.
Kelsey Nevius, the library’s communications and marketing specialist, says there are three reasons BGSU students should attend.
“Free cake, games for all ages and you get to learn about all of the interesting, fascinating library resources that we have to offer,” Nevius said.
Nevius added students may not know WCDPL is not just about books. She said it contains unique resources not available at other libraries such as a digital collection, including eBooks and audiobooks.
“It’s us combating that stigma that we only offer books. People don’t think we have all these great resources,” Nevius said.
Nevius added having digital resources such as a language-learning program is free to use with a library card, means shorter wait times and accessibility for those who may not be able to make it to the library in person.
Other unconventional resources the library offers include a seed library, which is a collection of plant and flower seeds that can be taken for free, items to check out such as a karaoke machine, stud finder and a 3D printer.
In addition to the 150th anniversary celebration, WCDPL offers weekly activities, including book clubs, arts and crafts, and game nights for people of all ages, including students.
Students do get the advantage of free library cards by showing a BGID to the circulation desk and filling out basic information. With all these resources being free to students, they have the opportunity to save thousands of dollars, Nevius said.
